Friendly fire incident in Marawi (Cong. Karlo Nograles)
Now
is not the time for fingerpointing on what happened with the airstrike that
accidentally hit our Army soldiers pursuing ISIS-linked Maute terrorists.
Casualties resulting to unexpected mishaps is certainly something that we
should frown on but in war, things like this can happen. Miscommunication can happen amidst the chaos
of war and our soldiers in the field, no matter how hard they train, may commit
mistakes. Wala po tayong dapat sisihin sa pangyayaring ito kundi ang mga
teroristang naghahasik ng lagim.
What
we should do now is to join together in prayer for the eternal repose of our gallant warriors who perished in this
fight, and the civilians, all those wounded, all those suffering, especially
the evacuees, and most especially let's pray for the restoration of peace in
Marawi City, in Mindanao, in our country and the world.
Statement of Cong. Lito Atienza on
the passing of former Senator Eva Estrada Kalaw
We
are deeply saddened by the passing of former Senator Eva Estrada Kalaw. We have
lost a dedicated freedom fighter – a leader of the democratic system in our
continuing struggle for a better Philippines.
We
will always cherish the years we spent with Tita Eva in the struggle to
liberate our country from martial law. She was a guiding light, a steady hand,
a courageous fighter who not only led our group of oppositionists from Manila
in the Batasang Pambansa elections in 1984, but also led our battles on the
floor of the Batasan as we fought to remove 14 years of martial rule.
She
had developed such a reputation as a brave and tireless freedom fighter that
she could very well be considered as the Filipino Joan of Arc.
Farewell,
Tita Eva – a true Filipino statesman and patriot.
